What does it take to provide free AAA screenings across the country? It takes all of us.

We collaborate with medical providers, including Louisiana State University Healthcare Network -physicians and sonographers; as well as medical professionals at Hartford Hospital (CT), Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago, Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, Surgery Consultants of Oxford (MS), University Medical Center in New Orleans.
Other clinical expertise comes from ultrasonography students at Delgado Community College and students at Charity School of Nursing at Delgado in New Orleans, as well as nursing students at University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, (CT). We also benefited from the work of healthcare management students at University of New Orleans , medical students at Tulane University School of Medicine, and Loyola University mass communications class members in New Orleans.

Our in-kind sponsors included the national Veterans of Foreign Wars, Philips Ultrasound, Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation, Hotel Monteleone as well as Community Coffee, Rouses Market and PJ’s Coffee of New Orleans who provided refreshments for our screening participants, (who are fasting when they arrive).

And our critically-important funding has come from W.L. Gore and Associates, Endologix, Amerigroup, Aetna, and Peoples Health.

We benefited from volunteer partnership with Humana and Blue Cross Blue Shield corporate volunteers and Marriott Spirit to Serve employees.

Awareness and informational support came from American Heart Association, Walgreens and Rite Aid, as well as New Orleans Advocates for GLBT Elders, Anna’s Place, Louisiana Men’s Health Conference, Councils on Aging in: Orleans, Capital Area, Jefferson, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and local senior centers, Greater New Orleans Healthy Communities Coalition, Louisiana Community Health Outreach Network, Nola Brain Aneurysm Foundation, Top Box Foods, faith-based organizations in several states and communities, Ochsner Golden Opportunity.

We worked closely with clinical experts from Boston Vascular, Federally Qualified Healthcare Centers, 504HealthNet, Nurse practitioners, and other professional associations such as: Society for Vascular Ultrasound, Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Vascular Nursing, New Cardiovascular Horizons, Society for Vascular Medicine, and Louisiana Men’s Health Conference.

Publicity partners have expanded our reach, and we appreciate: University of Mississippi, WWL television, New Orleans Advocate newspaper, Hartford Courant newspaper.

Our outreach and informational programs were provided at health fairs such as with: Dillard University, East Jefferson General Hospital-Men’s health month partners, East Baton Rouge School District employees, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s office employees, Vietnam Veterans of America, Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, Humana, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

And yes, there are many more. Thank you to each and every one who has worked with us in 2017 to save lives from ruptured AAA.
