Oxford, MS (February 9, 2017) – Two people learned that they are in danger of developing large abdominal aortic aneurysms and carotid artery blockages during a free screening Feb. 8 at Surgery Consultants of Oxford.

AAAs often are found in people over age 50 who smoke, have high blood pressure or high cholesterol as well as close family members, of those with AAAs, said Dr. Alden Kirk.

The information session and ultrasound screening are the first step for some individuals, who may not have heard of AAA. “We follow people after repairing the aneurysm to make sure that nothing develops,” Dr. Kirk said. The painless ultrasound is simple and noninvasive.

“Wonderful experience! My grandmother passed from an aneurysm so I thought that this opportunity was perfect,” said one participant.

This free screening event was provided by AAAneurysm Outreach and W.L. Gore.
