About Us

AAAneurysm Outreach is the nation’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA, pronounced “Triple A”) and encouraging at-risk individuals to get screened.

Inspired by AAA advocate Sheila Arrington, who lost her father to a ruptured AAA and has a strong family history herself, our goals are to:

  1. Raise public awareness about AAA
  2. Provide free screening services to at-risk populations
  3. Create a support network for individuals and families impacted by or at risk for AAA

Since 1999, AAAneurysm Outreach has provided life-saving early detection screenings for at-risk individuals across Louisiana and beyond. Our mission is to eliminate the silent killer of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) by providing awareness, education, free screening and support to those at risk and in greatest need.

AAAneurysm Outreach works with healthcare organizations, vascular surgeons, sonographers and other clinical personnel to implement its initiatives throughout several states. Since 2001, the organization has screened more than 10,000 eligible individuals and provided education and support to thousands of families and community members.

AAA disproportionately targets smokers, men and women over the age of 60, those with hypertension and people with a family history of the condition.

  1. It is estimated that 1.2 million people in the United States have an abdominal aortic aneurysm and don’t know it. It is the tenth leading cause of sudden death in men over the age of 60.
  2. Early detection of AAA has proven to be a lifesaver by providing valuable treatment information and options for medical intervention.

As a result, AAAneurysm Outreach has targeted these groups to deliver potentially life-saving screening, educational materials and outreach activities. The organization also targets families and community members to encourage at-risk individuals to get screened and participate in ongoing activities.
